My design of the Animal Farm book cover revolves around the concept of duality. From my first thumbnail sketch I knew I didn't want to use the color red since most modern covers use the color red to allude to Communism. I decided to look back to George Orwell's first publication of the book; the original book had a simple half green, half white cover. I thought I would pay homage to the original cover using green instead of red.
The cover design is a simple windmill at first, but when flipped upside down reveals a pig holding a marionette stick which is connected to the animals. This symbolizes the duality of the pigs intentions throughout the book and how they control the animals in the story.
